Their Story:

I was helping Sharon with her son that was getting into trouble. One day we had friends that were fighting and they had a baby with them and Sharon told then that she was taking the baby until they could stop fight because it is not good for the baby to hear and see them fighting. So she took the baby and we went to her house. Later that night we had to go and pick a friend up from work and when we were there waiting for him to get done with work I realized that I want to marry her so when we were at the place where this person work we order some food and that is when I asked her if she wanted to marry me and she said yes.

Their Story:

It was springtime and we had been talking about "serious things" for awhile - but he wasn't popping the question! The ring didn't have to be expensive: At this point I would have settled for an onion ring.

My dad was having a surprise Mother's Day dinner by the shore and I invited Nathaniel. He picked me up early and said we should visit some nearby gardens then have our first root beer of the season.

When I got in his car he asked if I was hungry and offered a bag of Funyons onion rings. This did not ring a bell in my head.

The gardens were lovely. My antenna went up as we walked around the flowers seeing many beautiful proposal spots. When we left and it didn't happen, I put it out of my mind.

On the way down to the shore we made an unexpected stop at my parents house to wrap a gift for my mom. My parents were acting smiley and strange, asking weird questions. In other words, they were acting completely normal.

What I didn't realize was that as I was trying to hide the gift from my mom, she was trying to hide what she knew from me: That I was about to be proposed to on the boardwalk.

We arrived at the shore, got our root beers, and sat on our usual benches overlooking the ocean.

"You know," Nathaniel said, "last week we were talking about places we could visit..?"

"Yeah..?"

"And there is also a different kind of journey we have been talking about: Marriage." He took the root beer from my hands and put it aside. This is the last clear thing I remember from that day.

As he held my hand he said, "Jennifer, I love you."

"I love you too!" I said quickly.

"I want us to have both kinds of journeys together, all of it, the ups and downs, the good stuff, and all the other stuff. To raise our children together, to explore the world together, and to be there for each-other always. So..."

He held out a dark green ring box. All I could think was: "TREAT!!! TREAT!!!"

"Will you marry me?"

"YES!!!"

I fumbled with the box and opened it -- the ring was shiny and sparkly with an antique look. I couldn't touch it.

"You put it on me," I said, scared it would fall through the cracks in the boardwalk.

I was in a complete daze as we drove crazily to dinner. The most amazing part is that I still thought we were late and didn't yet understand that it was not just a Mother's Day surprise, but it turned out to be an engagement party with both of our immediate families to share the excitement and happiness of the day!

We have known each other for over 30 years and got connected again through a mutual friend. For me, it was like being struck by lightening. We talked for a couple months and decided we were meant to be.
We. or I should say he, found us a beautiful home in the country down the road from his parents and here we are now.
Michael waited until Christmas Eve day and asked for a picture of my Mom, twin sister, younger sister and my daughter. Then he pulled the ring out and I'm not sure who cried more...me, him, or my family! He said he will announce our wedding date Jan. 3rd...lol...for us, its No Goodbyes and MFFM&AFFA(Michael forever forever Michael & Amy forever forever Amy. We are in our late 40's and seems like we finally found our soul mate.
